Nelson E. Almeter

Nelson E. Almeter, 88, formerly of Bemus Point, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in his home in Lakewood.

Nelson was the son of the late Andrew and Julia Becker Almeter. He graduated from East Aurora High School in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree, in Business Administration, from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985.

Nelson was first employed by Moog in East Aurora, then later at RF Communications in Rochester, NY and finally as a Purchasing Agent with Castle Company, a division of Sybron Corp., retiring in 1991.

He was an active member of his church community in East Aurora, Spencerport and for the past 26 years, St. Mary of Lourdes in Bemus Point.

He was a devoted husband and father, leaving a legacy of service to family and community to his four sons and one daughter. Nelson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois LaWall Almeter as well as five children and their families: son, Randy Almeter and his children, Stephanie, Diana and Kelly Almeter; son, Ron (Barbara) Almeter and their children Kelly, Jason and Kaitlynne Almeter; Mitchell (Stephanie) Almeter and their children Caleb and Zachary Almeter; Craig (Tammy) Almeter and their children Emily and Nicole Almeter; Penny (Daniel) Cavallaro and their children Danny Cavallaro and Justina (Cameron) McSain. He is also survived by twin sisters, Sandra Roemer and Sharon (David) Daniels, and a brother, Gerald (Shirl) Almeter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Almeter and two sisters, Mildred Schwab and Dorothy Downing.

Nelson was an avid outdoorsman, sportsman and craftsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking and carving. His ethic of community service, as a member of various local service committees, never diminished with age.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on May 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
