Obituary of Susan C. McCollough

Susan C. McCollough, 71, of 70 West Fairmount Ave., died at 12:53 a.m. Sunday (May 23, 2010) in her home. She was born October 20, 1938 in Warren, PA, a daughter of the late Walter and Ella Russell Chase and graduated in 1956 from Youngsville High School. Susan had been employed by Cummins Engine in Lakewood for 24 years, retiring in 2000. Susie always kept a warm, comfortable and welcoming home. She valued and maintained old friendships, and wherever she lived, her neighbors became dear friends. Everyone benefitted from her kindness and generosity. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and enjoyed weekly "Happy Hour" dinners with Bud and their daughter, Laura. She adored her children and grandchildren, taking pride in their accomplishments. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, sewing, swimming, Free Cell and Sudoku. She loved travel and especially liked the beaches of the Carolina coast and Lake Gaston in North Carolina. She loved country music in general and Kris Krisofferson in particular. Susie was also active in reunion planning for Lottsville Grade School Alumni and her Youngsville High School Class of 1956. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert L. "Bud" McCollough, whom she married January 2, 1960; four children: Richard McCollough of Carefree, AZ, Laura (Michael) Moss of Jamestown, Daniel McCollough of Morgantown, WV and Gilbert McCollough III of Rocky Mount, NC; eight grandchildren: Kyle, Corrine and Nathan McCollough, Kathryn and Jesse Moss, Walter and Haylie McCollough, and Patrick Chase McCollough; a sister, Sarah Sherrard of Jamestown; and two brothers, Alan (Ruth) Chase of Little Meadows, PA and Dennis (Sherry) Chase of Monroe, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Daryl Todd Chase who died May 14, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Friends will be received for two hours prior to the service in the funeral home Wednesday.
