Obituary of Orrie A. Hoover

Orrie A. Hoover, Jr, 82, of 2806 Elmhurst Rd., died Monday March 1, 2010, in Hamot Medical Center, Erie. A native of Butler, NJ, he was born February 4, 1928, the son of the late Orrie and Rose Shults Hoover, Sr. He was employed by Jamestown Ice and Storage where he had worked for over 50 years. He was a member of War Vets Recreation and Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion and was a life member of Falconer Rod and Gun Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and speed skating. He was an exhibition ice skater and had at one time tied the world record for barrel jumping. Surviving are his wife the former Frances Hetrick, whom he married July 6, 1950, three children Karen (Harold) Prine of Mt. Olive, NC, Patrick (Mary) Hoover of Frewsburg and Elizabeth (Timothy) Lobb of Jamestown, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a sister Althea Vik of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Drake. The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Robert E. Reeves, pastor of Zion Tabernacle will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Liver Transplant Fund, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642, Attn: Lori Bush Siracusa, in honor of his son Pat, a liver transplant survivor or Fluvanna Fire Department.
