Obituary of Margaret R. Walsh

Margaret "Marge" Rose Walsh, 92, formerly of Bemus Point and Maple Springs, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing Home. An area resident since 1951, she was born August 7, 1917 in Melrose, MN, daughter of the late Henry and Helen Trossen Hackman. She was the wife of Frank L. Walsh. Margaret and her late husband Frank were part owners and operators of Midway Amusement Park in Maple Springs from 1951 until 1982. She was a member and communicant of St. Mary (Our Lady) of Lourdes Church in Bemus Point. Surviving are two daughters, Karen M. Walsh of Bemus Point, Lynn M. Walsh of Tucson, AZ and a brother, Henry "Hank" Hackman Jr. of Backus, MN. Margaret is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Minnesota, Idaho, Colorado, Maryland, Florida and North Carolina, chosen family, as well as many dear friends. Margaret Walsh will be remembered as an extraordinary and genuine woman of love, kindness, devotion, compassion, generosity, strength, accomplishment, dignity, integrity and family. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank L. Walsh whom she married September 29, 1947 and who died June 27, 1989; two sisters, Evelyn Chalmers and Joanie Groskreutz; and three brothers, Raymond, Donald and Ralph Hackman. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 16th at St. Mary of Lourdes Church in Bemus Point. The Rev. Todd Remick and the Rev. John Kuhlmann will be celebrants. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 15th in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St. in Jamestown, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Margaret's family requests memorials be made to the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 306, Bemus Point, NY 14712; St. Mary of Lourdes Church, 41 Main St., Bemus Point, NY 14712; or the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380.
