Obituary of Roy S. Roman

Roy S. Roman, 89, of 24 Fullerton Avenue, Jamestown, died at 9:00 p.m. Sunday November 15, 2009, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A Jamestown native, he was born July 20, 1920, the son of Albert and Elizabeth Kieshauer Roman. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Force serving from 1943 to 1945. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Cummins Engine Plant as a machinist and earlier had worked for various manufacturing businesses in the Jamestown area. While living in Dover, OH he was employed by Baker Florist and Green Houses as a manager. He was a member of Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion and a former member of John W. Tiffany Post #53 VFW and Ingjald Lodge #65 Independent Order of Vikings. He was always very proud of his military service. He enjoyed working with flowers, fishing, going to the casino and being outdoors. His greatest love was the time spent with his family especially at their traditional Thanksgiving meals. Surviving are five children Romaine (Sidney) Sample of Jamestown, Betty (Anthony Sr.) Long of Ft. Myers, FL, Karen (Robert) Saxton of Busti, Roy (Edna) Roman of West Ellicott and David (Terrie) Roman of Jamestown, seven grandchildren Anthony (Melissa) Long, Jr. and Jody Long (David) of Ft. Myers, FL, John (Terri) Sample of Jamestown, Jason (Johanna) Sample of Falconer, Robert Dilker of West Ellicott, Denise (Jeremie) Donelson of Denver, CO and Angela Page of Jamestown, a great granddaughter Emma Sample and a niece and caregiver Debbie Young of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Beatrice Nary who died January 3, 2008. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Remember the 59 or Herman Kent Post #777.
