Obituary of Hermen L. Williams

Hermen Lloyd Williams Sr., 80, of 1001 Prendergast Ave Jamestown, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday (September 20, 2009) in WCA Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born July 14, 1929 in Franklinville, NY the son of Harry and Gertrude Scharf Williams. Hermen served in the U.S. Navy from January 1948 until November 1951 aboard the USS Des Moines. From February 1954 until July 1988, he was employed at Blackstone Corp retiring due to ill health. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and working. He is survived by his wife Betty J. Williams whom he married June 5, 1971 in Celoron, NY; his children, Patricia E. Carlson, Herman L. Williams Jr. (Peggy), Tina Blood (Robert), Irene Williams, Joseph Tickle, Paul D. Tickle, all of Jamestown; Sgt 1st Class Richard Williams (Karen) of Nolanville, TX; Beverlee Williams-Genberg (Scott) of Mayfield Hts., OH; Martin Tickle (Candace) of Lubbock, TX; and Paula Williams of Scranton, PA; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; four brothers, Dr. Harold R. Williams (Dorothy) of Kent, OH; Jay D. Williams (Faye) of East Otto, NY; Gerry G. Williams of Irving, NY; Henry "Hank" Williams (Charlene) of Chaffee, NY; and two sisters, Florence E. Pratt (Glen) of New Port Richey, FL; Scharlaine G. Klee of Sterling, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1964; his mother in 1972; two sons, Dale R. Williams December 1986; Harry A. Williams May 1996; a step son Isaac Tickle February 1970; a step daughter Donna M. Tickle August 1978; four sisters, Ida M. Steinmetz June 1968; Edna F. Blakeslee September 1998; Helen A. Davis May 2001; Edith F. Blanco February 2005; and two brothers, Norman A. Williams May 1999; and Elmer F. Williams January 2008. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
