Obituary of Susan R. Furness

Susan R. Furness, 62, of 5550 Berry Road, Fredonia died unexpectedly Friday, July 17, 2009 in Brooks Memorial Hospital. She was born December 16, 1946 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late Louis S. and Alice Twentymon Rodger and was a graduate of Hilton High School and the Rochester Business Institute. For many years, Susan had served as an executive secretary for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester. An area resident for almost 20 years, she had most recently been manager of the vision center at Walmart in Fredonia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fredonia. An animal lover, Susan also enjoyed gardening, genealogy and miniature doll houses. Surviving is her sister, Judith A. (Rev. Doug) Knopp of Jamestown; two brothers, Eric Rodger of Chili, NY and Dr. Scott (Cindy) Rodger of Eustis, FL; ten nieces and nephews: David (Susan) Nichols of Dunkirk, MD, Susan (Pam Scerba) Nichols of Clifton Park, NY, Jennifer (Martin) Greenman of Bridgeport, WV, Juliane (Louis) VanNorman of Clarksburg, WV, Beth Collins of Mid West City, OK, Cory Dieteman of Lincoln, NE, Allen and Adam Rodger of Chili, and Rachel and Carla Rodger of Eustis; six great nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Char (Bill) Szczerbacki of Fredonia. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15th in Christ Chapel of Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown. The Rev. Douglas M. Knopp will officiate. Inurnment will be in Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus, NY. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Fredonia, NY 14063. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Lind Funeral Home.
