Obituary of Marion A. Dicembre

Marion Albert Dicembre, 100, of Pleasantview Drive in Jamestown, died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born in Gaeta, Italy on November 28, 1908, a son of the late Salvatore "Sam" and Giulia Maisto Dicembre and came to the United States in December of 1910. In earlier years he had been employed by the former Marvel Furniture in Jamestown and from 1923 to 1936 by the Hotel Jamestown and Samuels. He then worked for 44 years for the Dahlstrom Metallic Door Co., retiring as lead man in 1970. Marion was an organizer and member of St. John Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a founder and life member of the Marco Polo Club. An avid reader, Marion was his family's historian as well. His stories always stressed the importance of family. Surviving is his sister, Mary Welch of Jamestown; and six nieces and nephews: Salvatore (Betty) Dicembre of Collins, NY, Ann Galbato of Jamestown, James (Betty) Tumminia of Jamestown, Geraldine (Tom) Jack of Long Island, Linda (Keith) Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and Cynthia (Albert) Albatrosov of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Margaret Molinengo Dicembre whom he married January 28, 1928 and who died December 31, 2002; an infant son, Salvatore Dicembre; three sisters, Rose M. Teresi, Natalia "Nellie" Tumminia and Stephanie "Stella" Gaeta; two brothers, Frank J. and Angelo P. Dicembre; and a niece, Julia Ann Dicembre Ekey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Holy Apostles Parish - St. John Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 5:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 4840 West Lake Road, Mayville, NY 14757; or to a charity of choice.
