Obituary of Mark W. Simmons

Mark W. Simmons, 49, of 343 Fairmount Ave., died unexpectedly Thursday Sept. 24, 2015, in his home. He was born Dec. 29, 1965, in Jamestown, a son of Sandra Verrett Simmons and the late Edwin Simmons. He was employed by Kmart as a department manager and earlier had worked for Bush Industries. He was a member of Bus-ti Church of God. He was an avid Bills fan, WWE fan and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed spending his time with his grandkids and wife. He was his grandkids number one fan. Spending nights and weekends watching Marcus play baseball, football, soccer, basketball and hockey. He also loved watching Lynette cheer every weekend. Along with that, he loved taking rides with his wife and lifelong partner. He also enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews grow up and has several great-nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by all family and friends for his endless stories and quick come-backs. He was the best joker with the greatest sense of humor you could find. Surviving, besides his mother of Jamestown, is his wife, Renie Simmons, whom he married Oct. 2, 1994; two daughters, Joanna Tillman and Sabina Figueroa, both of James-town; six grandchildren, Lynette and Marcus Merced, Breanna Merced-Waterman and Tatianna, Gianna and Olivia Figueroa; three sisters, Maryann Mungle of North Carolina, Ruth Bragg of Busti and Becky Kestler of Kennedy; and a brother, Michael Frye of Cattaraugus. Also surviving are his uncles, Ernest, Alvin and Noyes; and aunts, Shirley and Audrey. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Juanita Thompson; and uncles, Bobby and Albert Simmons. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Scott Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
