Obituary of Robert W. Carlson

Robert W. Carlson, 83, formerly of Jamestown, passed away Thursday September 24, 2015 at his home in Ocala, FL following a brief illness. He was born June 16, 1932 in Jamestown the son of the late Henning and Mabel Carlson. Bob was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Army in Korea. For many years, he was a commercial truck driver, retiring from St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. While living in Jamestown, Bob was a member of the War Vets, American Legion, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and the Eagles. In Florida, Bob was a member of the Angela S. Santos VFW Post 4781 in Ocala. He was an avid horseshoe and shuffleboard player and a member of the National Horseshoe Association. Bob loved animals, especially his cats. In 1995 while living in Las Vegas, NV, Bob met his devoted future wife Erma. They were married in 1996 and moved to Nova Scotia. In 2000, they settled in Ocala where they were active in the Oak Run community. Surviving besides his wife Erma are two daughters, Debbie (Emil) Gunther; Darlene (Lee) Peterson; two grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn Lawson and Scott A. Gunther; five great grandchildren, Treyton, Piper, and Bryce Lawson; Tiffany and Celine Gunther; a sister, Joyce Carlson; and a brother, Tom Carlson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Hagstrom Carlson whom he married May 2, 1953 and who died February 24, 1994; and a granddaughter, Lyndsey Ann Peterson. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday (two hours prior to the service) in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
