Obituary of Guy E. Lyons

Guy E. Lyons, 79, of 2109 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, died Friday November 20, 2015, in Warren Manor. A native of Mount Airy, NC, he was born July 27, 1936, a son of the late Roy and Ida Jane Dawson Lyons. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Clark Supply Company as a sales representative. He was a longtime member of Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association and had served as vice president. He was involved in many aspects of the club including the annual kids fishing tournament, scholarships and construction of the band shell at Lucille Ball Park in Celoron. He also volunteered at the Rib Fest every year. Guy was an avid hunter, fisherman, NASCAR fan and a dedicated father. He always had a joke or a story to lift people up. Never held a grudge and spent all of his time volunteering or helping in any way someone needed. Guy was a man above men. If you ever needed advice or help he was there. He never asked for money or a favor. He only wanted to help his community. He would listen, show patience, and assist. Some men don't need to be a leader to feel accomplished. He only wanted friendship Surviving are six children Debra (Mike) Shelton and David (Jan) Lyons, both of Mount Airy, Paul Froman of Houston, TX, Cindy Haight of Jamestown, Michael Lyons of Baltimore, MD and Kellie Lyons of West Ellicott; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a nephew Steve Lyons of Mount Airy. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Guy Lyons, Jr.; a great grandson; four brothers and a sister. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
