Obituary of Frederick L. Worden

Frederick L. Worden, Sr., 89, of Linden Ave. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 6:24 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 6, 1926 in the Town of Poland a son of the late Burt and Edna Traphagen Worden. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving June 23, 1944 to July 26, 1946 during World War II. He also served several years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Before his retirement he was employed as a brake and press operator for Ellison Bronze where he worked for 38 years. He had earlier worked for the former Royal Metal Company in Falconer, NY. He was a former member of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286 American Legion and the Jamestown Moose Lodge. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great and great grandfather who enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling and attending family picnics. Surviving is his wife of 65 years Mary Norris Worden whom he married January 2, 1951, a son, Frederick L. Worden, Jr. of Jamestown, a daughter, Linda Sue (Frank) Whitacre of Ellington, NY, two grandchildren, Vicki L. Chadwick (Randy) of Lakewood, NY, Jessica N. Thomas of Jamestown, six great grandchildren, Michael S. Whitacre (Lisa), Joshua A. Whitacre, Sr.,(Tabitha), Ashlie M. Chadwick, Kaylyn E. Chadwick, Gavin B. Thomas, Alexander J. Thomas, a great great grandson, Joshua A. Whitacre, Jr. as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Warden, Walter Worden, Robert Worden and a sister Bertha Patterson. The funeral will be held at 11:000 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Sue Fish will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
