Obituary of Bernice N. Diffenderfer

Bernice N. Diffenderfer, 96, of 4780 Gleason Rd., Ashville, NY passed away at 12:22 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born January 27, 1920 in Youngstown, OH a daughter of the late Lenus E. and Ebba Nelson Danielson. She was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1952 graduate of Jamestown Business College. Bernice was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a WAVE from August 14, 1944 to September 21, 1945.Before her retirement in 1982, she was employed as an accounting clerk for the former Falconer Plate Glass Company. In earlier years she had worked for the former Automatic Voting Machine Corporation. She was a member of the New Creation Assembly of God Church, the Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers and was a literacy volunteer at the James Prendergast Library. She also volunteered for the Head Start Program through Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. Surviving are three sons, Jerry M. (Sylvia) Diffenderfer of Dallas, TX, John M. (Teresa) Diffenderfer of East Liverpool, OH, David B. (Luella) Diffenderfer of Panama, NY, seven grandchildren, Rebecca McDougal of Sacramento, CA, Brian Diffenderfer of Dallas, TX, Brenda Diffenderfer of Aurora, CO, Michael Diffenderfer of Newark, DE, Sarah Huddleston of E. Liverpool, OH, Matthew Diffenderfer of Shreve, OH, Tammy Swanson of Panama, NY, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and a sister, Audrey Hallett of Jamestown. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Gerald Diffenderfer whom she married May 11, 1945 in New Cumberland, PA and who died October 27, 1991. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the New Creations Assembly of God Church. The Rev. William Blair, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday in the church.
