Obituary of Nathaniel S. Calanni

Nathaniel S. "Ned" Calanni, 92, of 272 Camp St., Jamestown, NY, passed away at 12:26 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, he was born October 24, 1923 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Anthony and Carmella Bonfiglio Calanni. Following his high school graduation and his barber school training he returned to Jamestown and owned and operated Calanni's Barber Shop for over 40 years. In later years he retired from Cummins Engine Company after 7 years of service at the Jamestown Engine Plant. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 926. He was an avid bowler and belonged to several bowling leagues including the Knights of Columbus bowling league and was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Frances J. DiLeo Calanni whom he married February 15, 1947, two sons, Anthony (Laura) Calanni of Bemus Point, NY, Ronald (Sue) Calanni of West Ellicott, five grandchildren, Gina (Robert) Hilburger of Aliso Viejo, CA, Lisa Calanni of San Jose, CA, Teresa (Daniel) Murtaugh of Columbus, OH, Kristen (Michael) Tallon of West Ellicott, Andrea Calanni of Jamestown, five great grandchildren, Caden and Ellison Hilburger, Grant Murtaugh, Sophia and Leah Tallon. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James Calanni and a sister Ann Calanni D'Argento. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Monday (today) in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 7:00 pm today. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
