Obituary of Gerald J. Bostaph

Gerald J. Bostaph, 84, of 30 Dearing Ave. Jamestown, passed away Monday June 27, 2016 in WCA Hospital. He was born October 28, 1931 in Kane, PA one of 13 children of the late Joseph and Lily Elder Bostaph. Gerald was a graduate of Kane High School and learned early on in life the value of hard work. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. After returning home, he went to work at AVM Corp in Jamestown. Then he drove truck for United Lumber which became Nelson Brothers Lumber. For many years, he drove a school bus and a JARTS bus. Following retirement, he worked as a courier for many years. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a life member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion and the Veteran's Club in South Dayton. Gerald was a very patriotic and wonderful man who was loved by everyone. A man of few words, he was caring and helpful and touched many lives. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Rasmussen Bostaph; four daughters, Cathy (Jon) Belin, Jody (Gary) Gauggel both of Jamestown; Shelley Bostaph Pearson of West Ellicott; Kristy (Douglas) Kirkpatrick of Edgewood, WA; a grandson/caregiver Joshua Bostaph; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Jay Bostaph; and 12 brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will officiate. Military Honors will follow. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the funeral home.
