Obituary of Sebastian S. Guiffrida

Sebastian S. "Busty" Guiffrida, 92, of 141 Superior Street, went to be with the Lord Tuesday June 28, 2016, in WCA Hospital. A native of Jamestown, he was born January 22, 1924, a son of the late Nunzio and Mary Musarra Guiffrida. He attended Jamestown High School joining the US Navy November of 1941. He served on the USS Swanson DD443 in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was awarded the European, African and Middle Eastern Service Medals with three battle stars, Asiatic-Pacific Area with 5 battle stars and Good Conduct Medals and participated in Philippine Operations in Leyte, Okinawa. Following the war he served in the Naval Reserve for 17 1/2 years. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Blackstone Corporation for 40 years. He was a life member of VFW and the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association. His other memberships include American Legion, United States Golf Association, Conewango Forks Golf Club and Boys Club Alumni Association. he was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He always remarked how great it was to have children and grandchildren who have succeeded in life. They always made him very proud. He often asked, "How much more could anyone ask for in life?" Surviving are two sons James (Maria) Guiffrida of East Amherst, NY and Joseph (Debra R.) Guiffrida of Gerry; grandchildren Julie (Darren) Rosselli of Gasport, NY, James (Erin) Guiffrida of Buffalo, NY, Joseph (Angela) Guiffrida of Asheville, NC, Matt (Shelia) Guiffrida of Long Island, NY, Shari Guiffrida of Jamestown and great grandchildren Carson, Franchesca, Josephine, Sebastian and Annabella. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Mary Baglia Guiffrida; five sisters Caroline Saldi, Josephine Chase, Carmella Giampetro, Mary Bellavia and Grace Jim and one brother Phillip Guiffrida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Darrell Duffy will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 8:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Jamestown Boys and Girls Club, 62 Allen St, Jamestown, NY 14701.
