Obituary of Donald N. Anderson

Donald N. Anderson, 84, of 397 Hallock Street, died peacefully Thursday July 21, 2016. in his home. A native of Jamestown, he was born March 5, 1932, a son of the late Alvin "Aubby" and Ruth Rolfe Anderson. He was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Buffalo State University in 1959 and in 1968 received a master's degree in education. For over 30 years he was employed by Jamestown Public Schools as an art teacher at Jamestown High School. For many of those years he was faculty advisor to the annual yearbook. Don contributed to the City of Jamestown by serving on Jamestown Planning Commission for ten years and Jamestown Civil Service Commission for twelve years, ten of which he served in the capacity of chairman. He was also very involved in politics. He was a longtime member of Chautauqua Golf Club. Surviving are his wife the former Sandra Lake, whom he married June 7, 1958; two sons Christopher (Linda) Anderson of Jackson, MI and Lars-Peter (Robert Garfinkel) Anderson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; daughter-in-law Tanya Anderson of Jamestown; two granddaughters Hannah and Emily Anderson both of Jamestown and a sister Susan Bastian of Jamestown. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Eric Anderson and a sister Patricia Shults. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
