Obituary of Harold O. Bergman

Harold O. Bergman (Bergy), 93, of 310 James Ave, Jamestown, NY died Monday July 25, 2016, at Warren Manor, Warren, PA. A native of Jamestown, he was born May 10, 1923, a son of the late Oscar and Julia Isaacson Bergman. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Harold graduated from Jamestown High School in 1942, then enlisted in the US Air Force during WWII and the Korean War. Harold was awarded a Commendation for building the first AiC Gunsight Mock-up in the Air Force. He was very well respected for all his contributions to his Armament Squadron. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Empire State Mutual Life Insurance Company and earlier had worked for Quality Markets and Gold Star Markets. Surviving are five nieces: Marilyn Cimino, Marlene Maslovitz, Michele Johnson, Julie Koshewa, and Dorothy Brown. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews and lifelong friend and caretaker David James and beloved dogs: Ole, Oscar, Emma, and Daisy. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two nephews: Elsie Colander, Dorothy Maslovitz, Elna Shupe, twin sister Harriett Kurtz, Edward Phillips, and Ronald Colander. Harold (Bergy) enjoyed staying in touch and visiting his many friends and neighbors and was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed. A private graveside memorial service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Jamestown at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
