Obituary of Margaret A. Walrod

JAMESTOWN, NY -- Margaret "Peggy" Walrod, age 73, from 4622 Cowing Road, Lakewood, died Tuesday, July 26th, at Heritage Park, from complications with rheumatoid arthritis. Born on March 1, 1943, she was predeceased by her parents, Franklin Frazier and Claribell Healey, a daughter, Karin Beth, and sister, Andrea Clayton. Peggy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dennis, her sister, Grace Brown, her children, Laura (Richard) Hunt, Megan Walrod, Jennifer Walrod and Nathan (Tara) Walrod, and seven remarkable grandchildren. Peggy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in public health nursing at Alfred University, SUNY. She worked first in Rochester then Charleston, WV, in rural mining communities, and later in Jamestown at different agencies including the WCA Hospital. Peg was a published author; her articles on child raising were featured in national magazines. She was considered an "Other Mother" to many children in the neighborhood. When asked shortly before she died what was most important to her in life she said, without hesitation, "My kids." The Walrod family is extremely grateful to the staff at Heritage Park. Their kindness and dedicated service went a long way to making Peg's two-year stay there comfortable and almost like home. A memorial service will be held at Lind Funeral Home (805 West Third Street, Jamestown) on Monday, August 1st at 6pm. Doug Kibbe, Lead Pastor at Church on the Rock, will officiate. Friends will be received from 4-6pm on Monday at the funeral home.
