Obituary of Jean M. Gossman

Jean Marie Shaffer Gossman, 88, of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away on August 22, 2016, with her daughters and son by her side. She was born December 7, 1927 in Oil City, PA. She was the daughter of the late Ruth Bonnett Shaffer and William Shaffer. While in high school, Jean was a WWII messenger. She graduated salutatorian from Girard High School. Jean was a bookkeeper for most of her career, working at home at times while raising her five children. She was a Hospice Volunteer for 20 years, member of the Topsail Island Ladies Club and Garden Club. The last few years was very active while living at Edgewood Communities, Jamestown, NY including volunteering, book club, Tai Chi with daily mile walks. After her husband of 68 years, Robert L. Gossman passed away, she moved to her daughter's home in Sugar Grove, PA. While there she again volunteered at The Outpost, where she enjoyed talking to all who came in. Surviving are her five children, Robert (Veronica) Gossman, Jeannette Gossman, Margaret (Robert Snyder) Gossman, Michael (Kris) Gossman, Barbara (Shawn) Gossman-Casuccio; her brother David (Pauline) Shaffer, her sister Margaret (Robert) Payne, an Uncle Ike (Helen) Bonnett, brother-in-law, Ronald (Patricia) Gossman. Her grandchildren are Karen (Nathan) Shadle, Karl (Brandis) Gossman, Martin Angelo, David (Stephanie) Angelo, Spencer Snyder, Jack Snyder, Kimberly Holt, Jason Snyder, Alyssa Anderson, Ronald Anderson, Thomas Casuccio, Anna Dae Casuccio; great grandchildren, Elijah and Kyper Shadle, Mia Rhoades, Samuel and Nathaniel Holt. She married the love of her life, Robert Gossman, on May 3, 1947 at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Girard, PA. Jean's family would like to invite all of our friend's to Peggy's house for an open house celebration of her life on Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is a casual affair as Jean always loved get togethers with friends.
