Obituary of Allan D. Berry

Allan Douglas Berry, 82, of 295 Shadyside Ave., Lakewood, NY passed away, August 25th, 2016 at Golden Living Kinzua in Warren PA after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Disease. He was born February 5th, 1934, in Panama NY, son of Benjamin and Winifred Berry. He married his wife of 60 years, Nancy Berry on May 29th, 1954. Allan, a graduate of Panama High School, was an active duty veteran of the Korean War. After his tour, Allan began his career in the late 50's as the owner of the Crossroads Mobile in Jamestown. However, looking for a job with more regular hours he joined Marlin Rockwell as a night watchman. MRC recognized his aptitude for computer work and gave him an entry level position in the data center. After that Allan worked his way to manager of the Marlin Rockwell Division of TRW's data center. Finally, he was promoted to Director of the data centers for the entire TRW Industrial Products Group. While at MRC he was board member and president of the MRC Federal Credit Union. Before retirement Allan also held positions as Director of Data Center Operations at Brockway Glass and the State of North Carolina. Especially interested in hunting, fishing, and trapping, Allan enjoyed these interests with his three son's and brother, Warren. Once, in 1972, he caught a 52 ½ inch Muskie which was the biggest one caught that year on Chautauqua Lake. And he enjoyed showing his Champion Keeshond dog Mark at local and national dog shows. As an accomplished radio controlled aircraft builder and flyer, Allan belonged to the Flying Rebels and Flying Aces R/C clubs in Jamestown. While his son's were boys Allan coached several Cub league, Lion league, and Babe Ruth league baseball teams and was president of the parent boosters for the SWCS football team. Allan was preceded in death by his parents: Benjamin and Winifred Berry of Panama, his wife Nancy Berry, brothers Paul Berry and Bruce Berry and sister Jackie Maggio. He was survived by his three sons Daniel (Barb) Berry of Lakewood, Scott (Anna) Berry of Jamestown and Todd (April) Berry of McLeansville, NC,: grandchildren Benjamin and Alexis Berry of Lakewood, Sofia and Gabrielle Berry of Jamestown, Elisa (Albert) Warner, Julia Berry, Andrea Berry and their mother Michele Wood of Jacksonville, Florida, Jennica Anderson, Amanda (Corey) VanArsdale of Erie, PA, Courtney Uhlig: six great grandchildren: a brother Warren (Barbara) Berry of Ashville: and care giver Tess Courson. The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff at Golden Living Kinzua in Warren for the 3 ½ years they took care of Allan. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond Gilman, pastor of Lakewood and Ashville United Methodist Churches will officiate. Burial will be in the Bentley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
