Obituary of Barbara A. Burk

Barbara A. Burk, 74, of Lakewood, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2016 in WCA Hospital. She was born December 4, 1941 in Jamestown the daughter of the late William and Anna Borst Bogard. She worked many jobs in the area including as manager of the Gaslight Motor Inn, and at the Jamestown Teachers Federal Credit Union, but her source of pride was as owner of the Fairmount Shoppe. This was her bliss, where she created memories and joy for anyone with the good fortune to know her as a shopkeeper. Everyone who happened into her world came away feeling better, feeling wanted, feeling understood. It was a precious gift that will be sorely missed. She had a passion for gardening, crafts, and the home, weaving the space around her into a comfortable community. She was the guiding light of her robust and active family, a dedicated wife, friend, mother and grandmother, an irresistible confidante, a sanctuary and a safe haven. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, W. William Burk; a daughter, Felicia A. Giambruno of Jamestown; two sons, William T. Burk of Ashville; Richard E. (Caryn) Burk of Long Island; six grandchildren, Sarah M. Giambruno, Benjamin J. Burk, Sydney G. Burk, Jordan N. Burk, Adam M. Burk, and Samantha B. Burk; a sister, Patricia M. Baker of Lakewood; and a brother, William E. Bogard of Florida. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. As Barb was a consummate follower of the sports that her family played, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Village of Lakewood Non-Endowed Baseball Diamond Fund c/o Chautauqua Region Community Foundation (http://crcfonline.org/product/village-of-lakewood-non-endowed-baseball-diamond-fund/), 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
