Obituary of Genevieve E. Kahm

Genevieve E. Kahm, 89, of 3955 Rt 430, Bemus Point, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. An area resident for most of her life, she was born December 22, 1926, in the Town of Villenova, NY, a daughter of the late George and Amelia Makowski Mierzwa. Before her retirement she was co-owner with her husband of Kahm Bottled Gas in Fredonia, NY. Following his passing in 1983, she ran the company until she sold the business in the mid 1990's. She also worked as a mail carrier for the Dunkirk Observer for several years. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point. She was also a member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion Auxiliary, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Moose Lodge. While living in Florida she was a member of the Saddlebag Lake Association in Lake Wales, FL. She loved spending time at her home in Lake Wales, FL. She will be remembered as one who loved to cook and entertain, loved shopping on QVC and other shopping networks and enjoyed playing bingo and her many trips to the casino. Surviving is a son, Joseph P. Kahm of Bemus Point, NY, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, a sister, Cecilia Adkins of Lakeview, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl G. "Bud" Kahm whom she married August 2, 1952 and who died July 25, 1983, two sons, Mark S. Kahm who died March 21, 2012 and David L. Kahm who died August 9, 2011, four brothers, Thomas, Stanley, Anthony and infant John Mierzwa, a sister, Lettie Mierzwa and a nephew, Edward Mierzwa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bemus Point. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
