Obituary of Jane L. Campbell

Jane L. Campbell, 84, of 116 Sunset Avenue, Lakewood, died Monday October 24, 2016, in Lutheran. She was born December 31, 1931 in Yonkers, NY, a daughter of the late William and Margaret Tough Lawrie. Following graduation from Gorton High School she attended University of Bridgeport, CT. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was employed by A Children's Place where she had worked since 1977. She was involved in several community organizations. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, serving on the altar guild, teaching Sunday school, working in the thrift store and organizing volunteers for the shopper's luncheon. She was on the board of directors of WCA Hospital where she had been treasurer and volunteered in the Palliative Care and Dialysis Units. She gave of her time as Story Hour Lady at the Lakewood Library, Literacy Volunteer, St. Susan Soup Kitchen, Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, FL, Special Olympics and Victim Impact Panel of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. For the many hours given to this area, in 2006 Jane and her husband received the John D. Hamilton Community Service Award from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. Surviving are three children David (Lynne) Campbell of Middleburg, FL, Laurie Barney of East Amherst, NY and Sarah Campbell of Hornell, NY; five grandchildren Caitlin (John) Fritsch of Ravenna, OH, Andrew Barney of East Amherst, Katie, Daniel and Mitchell Recio of Hornell; a niece Barbara Bunting of Boulder, CO and a nephew Richard Weisehan of Avon, CO. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George Campbell, whom she married September 6, 1952 and who died May 9, 2009; a daughter Catherine "Katie" C. Rexford; a son-in-law Charles Barney and a sister Mary Lawrie. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Rev. Luke Foder will officiate. Entombment will be in St. Luke's columbarium. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
