Obituary of Clayton L. Starks

Clayton L. "Jack" Starks, 100, formerly of Belleview Road Bemus Point, NY, passed away Wednesday February 22, 2017 in the Lutheran Home, surrounded by his family. A Town of Ellery resident for 99 years, he was born April 9, 1916 the son of the late Clyde W. and Buna M. Brown Starks. Prior to retirement, Jack worked as night custodian at Maple Grove Jr. Sr. High School. He also worked at LS Aero Marina and for many years did farming and carpentry work. Jack was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Ellery Senior Citizens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing card games, traveling, gardening, tending to his apple orchards and raising Herford Cows. Surviving are his daughter, Martha "Marty" Hunt of Jamestown; three grandchildren: Michael Christoferson of Rome, NY; Lynn (Chris) Rodgers of Jamestown; Jason Nelson of Tampa, FL; four great grandchildren: Ian, Robyn, Cory, and Evan; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marian Warner Starks whom he married May 27, 1944 and who died May 1, 1986; a daughter, Carol Nelson; a brother, Clifford Starks; and a sister, Alice M. Hodom. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan W. Anderson and the Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home.
