Obituary of Hope E. Cline

Hope E. Cline, 86, of Ashville, NY, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA. A lifelong area resident, she was born August 14, 1930 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Watson B. and Blanche Otten Layman, Sr. Hope was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was an Executive Secretary to the President and Chief Executive Officer of SKF Industries (formerly MRC and TRW) in Falconer, NY, where she worked for over 39 years. She enjoyed going out to dinner with friends at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, where she was an auxiliary member, and the Vikings Lodge, both of which she enjoyed immensely. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her pets, painting, sewing and decorating. She was also an ardent fan of NASCAR Racing, the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres. Surviving are a nephew, Daniel Layman of Hartland, WI; two great nephews, Benjamin and Jeremiah Layman of OR; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Nancy Cline of Ooltewah, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews on the Cline side of the family. Hope was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Cline, Jr. whom she married April 1, 1951 and who died March 2, 2015 after 63 years together; a brother, Watson B. Layman, Jr. and two nephews, Martin and Rick Layman. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Rd. Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of one's choice.
