Obituary of Donald M. Federko

Donald M. Federko, 85, of 327 Forest Ave., Jamestown, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing. He was born September 12, 1931 in Ludlow, Pa., a son of the late Michael and Anastasia Fedak Federko. Following graduation from high school, he served in the US Air Force from 1951 until 1955. While in the service, he was inducted into the Arctic Order, Knights of the Blue Nose for surviving a tour in the Arctic Circle. Don was employed as a clerk by the US Postal Service office in Jamestown, and formerly worked for Jamestown Metal Products for 32 years. He was a member of the Ludlow American Legion and the Wildcat Park Association. He also enjoyed his weekly meetings of the 'Liar's Club' coffee group at the Foote Avenue McDonald's. Don was an avid golfer whose family thought of him as a handyman who could fix anything, no matter how much time it took. He loved attending any of his grandchildren's sporting events and looked forward to the annual Easter trip to the Broadway Market in Buffalo. He also enjoyed trips to Ludlow Pa. to march in the Memorial Day Parade. Don is survived by his wife, Jennie Kaluza Federko whom he married November 24, 1962 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point. Also surviving are three children: Mark (Carol) Federko of Jamestown, Michelle Marsh of Jamestown and Kathleen (Rick) Whippo of Frewsburg; seven grandchildren: Brooke and Shane Federko, Devan and Kyle Marsh, and Madison, Hunter and Paige Whippo; and a brother, John Federko of Lakewood and sister, Millie Anderson of Ludlow, Pa. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome and Walt Federko; three sisters, Ann Wolfe, Mary Kondrak and Vee Anderson; and a son-in-law, Dean Marsh who died April 19, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter & Paul Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:45 p.m. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, WNY Chapter, 2805 Wehrle Dr., Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
