Obituary of Barbara A. Phillips

Barbara A. Phillips, 78, of 1866 Southwestern Drive, Jamestown, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was the widow of George A. Phillips, whom she married April 26, 1969 and who died December 28, 2004. Barbara was born June 29, 1938 in Tidioute, Pa., the daughter of the late Russell and Elsie Johnson Peterson, and received her Degree from Grove City College. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Barbara will be fondly remembered for the great love she had for her family and friends, as well as her generous nature towards others. She warmly opened her home to countless visitors through the years and had a close circle of friends and acquaintances. In addition to her loving personality, Barbara was an amazing cook and talented artist. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; always attending and celebrating all of their important moments in life. Surviving Barbara are her three daughters: Adriane DePante and Vanessa Maglin of Pittsburgh, PA, and Melissa Phillips-Britton of New York, NY; eight grandchildren: Jordan, Dante & Rhyan DePante, Taylor, Ava & Charlotte Maglin, and Jack & Sabine Britton; and a sister, Janet Briggs, also of Jamestown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1st in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 31st in the Lind Funeral Home. Given that Barbara was a devout member of the Catholic Church for most of her life, the family requests that any memorials please go to Sacred Heart Church, 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
