Obituary of Doris Carr
Doris J. Carr, 97, formerly of 9 Alvin James Drive, Ashville, and Brookdale Lakewood, passed away Saturday April 29, 2017 in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, she was born October 15, 1919 in the Town of Harmony, the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Mary Allison Woodin.
Doris was a 1936 graduate of Lakewood High School and a 1938 graduate of Jamestown Business College.
She had worked at the Letter Shop, Murphy's 5 & 10 Store, Shea's and Roosevelt Theaters, and the Jamestown Telephone Corp.
Doris was an honorary member of the Harmony Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, bowling in the couples league, reading, crossword puzzles, watching her favorite TV programs, and especially spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sister, Helen M. (the late Ralph) Farren of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews, including Kay Crossley her caregiver.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ivan B. Carr whom she married December 16, 1938 and who died August 26, 2000; a brother, William A. Woodin; four nephews, Joseph Farren, Gene Carr, B. Neil Carr, James R. Carr; and a niece, Doris Elaine Carr.
The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday May 1, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Monday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
