Obituary of John E. Bylund

John E. Bylund, 90, formerly of Dutch Hollow Rd. Bemus Point, NY, passed away at 4:26 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born May 2, 1927 in Jamestown, NY, a son of the late Eric A. and Evelyn A. Lofgren Bylund. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving from February 16, 1945 to May 25, 1946 during World War II. Before his retirement, he was the Managing Director for the Jamestown office of Blue Cross and Blue Shield and following his career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield was an Administrator for Lutheran Social Services. John and his family were longtime members of the St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Bemus Point. Surviving are three sons, Dr. David J. (Audrey) Bylund of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Daniel E. (Susan) Bylund of Carlsbad, CA, John F. (Jennifer) Bylund of Cazenovia, NY, a daughter, Polly Ann (Michael) Spring of Fabius, NY, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Doris Samuelson Bylund whom he married June 14, 1952 and who died April 5, 2008 and a sister, Barbara Wellman. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
