Obituary of Earl C. Briggs

Earl C. "Chuck" Briggs of Lakewood, NY and Hudson, FL, passed away Wednesday July 5, 2017 in UPMC Chautauqua WCA Hospital at the age of 75 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Chuck was born February 2, 1942 in Jamestown to the late Harold and Virginia Dean Briggs. He graduated from Southwestern Central High School in 1960 and went to work at Monarch Electric. Chuck then served in the US Army and the National Guard. Following his discharge from the service, he attended Jamestown Community College where he earned an Associate in Applied Science in 1969. In 1971, he graduated from SUNY College at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. Chuck began working part time at Weber Knapp during college and held management engineering capacity positions at the former Microline, Crescent Tool, Sterlingworth, and MRC/SKF where he retired in 2003. Chuck enjoyed classic cars, trucks, golfing, fishing and shooting pool with his friends. He was a member of the Chautauqua Lake Region-Antique Automobile Club of America. Surviving are his wife the former Linda LeBaron whom he married July 24, 1992 and were less than three weeks shy of celebrating their 25th anniversary; two daughters, Heidi (Robert) San George of Dunkirk; Kristin (Jim) Alexander of Lakewood; two step daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Wilhelm of Jamestown; Kelly (Gregg) Dixon of Dunedin, FL; six grandchildren, Lindsey Connors, Tayler Moots, Trevor San George, Trent San George, Grace Alexander, Nathan Alexander; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene (Gordon) Johnson of Celoron. Chuck will also be missed by his beloved dog Molly. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday July 7, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home where Full Military Honors will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A Celebration of Chuck's life will be held Sunday July 9, 2017 at the Lakewood Firemen's Training Grounds, Summit Ave Lakewood from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701; or to a charity of choice.
