Obituary of Scott R. Sickler

Scott R. Sickler, 79, of 229 East Terrace Ave. Lakewood, NY, passed away at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017, in his home following a lengthy illness. An Area resident since 1963, he was born July 3, 1938 in Kingston, NY, a son of the late Ronald and Elizabeth O'Keefe Sickler. Scott attended the National Hardwood Lumber Association Inspection School in Memphis, Tn. Before his retirement in 2003, at the age of 65, he was a Lumber Trader for the Baillie Lumber Company in Hamburg, NY for over 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from November 29, 1961 to November 27, 1963 during the Vietnam War Era and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1967. Scott was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association, Life Member of the Phoenicia Post 950 American Legion, Phoenicia, NY, Life Member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the LLAMA Club of Ashville, NY, the Mt. Moriah Lodge # 145 Free and Accepted Mason's and was a Past Monarch of the Kharram Grotto. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marjorie L. Maurer Sickler, whom he married September 28, 1963, his three children, Susan (Sean) O'Boyle of Jamestown, NY, Patricia (Tom) LeBlanc of Frewsburg, NY, Harry (Kimberly) Sickler of Jackson, OH, six grandchildren, Nolan O'Boyle of Falconer, NY, Ben O'Boyle of Jamestown, NY, Zachary Johnson of Beaver Creek, CO, Amanda Johnson (Eric) Potkovick of Angola, NY, Nicole Dake of Athens, OH, Brandy Sickler of Jackson, OH, three great grandchildren, Tess Potkovick, Rauri Potkovick, Camdyn O'Boyle, a brother, Thomas Sickler of Lee, Mass. and two nephews, Geoffrey and Cody Sickler. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Sickler and Harry J. Sickler. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Rene' Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home where a Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. Friday by members of the Mt. Moriah Lodge # 145.
