Obituary of Richard P. Maher

Richard Phillips Maher, 81, formerly of Lakewood, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in his home in St. Augustine, Florida.

He was born December 29, 1935 in Jamestown, New York and is the son of the late Edwin P. Maher and Alice Hanson.

Richard was former President/Owner of the Jamestown Iron Works, Inc. in Falconer, NY.  Founded in 1888, he successfully continued managing the family business.

Richard graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954.  He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in business in 1958 and he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity.

Richard was a former member of Moon Brook Country Club, Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club and Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine.

He was an avid golfer, tennis player, sailor and art enthusiast.  He was a passionate traveler and traveled the world extensively.  In summation, he loved life, his family and a good martini.

Surviving are his daughter, Susan K. Maher, son David W. (Michelle) Maher, sister Carole (Rod) Carlson, and daughter-in-law Karen L. Maher; surviving grandchildren include Thomas (Barbara Lobb) Maher, Christopher (Amanda) Maher, Mathew (Alyson) Maher, Ashley (Peter) Torres, Clarissa Maher along with 10 great grandchildren; Beloved companion of Kathleen J. Ingalsbe and her children John Sabino, Christine Feagin and Anthony Sabino.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven P. Maher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 28 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor will be celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 27 in the Lind Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center,  633 Third Avenue, 12th floor, NY, NY  10017.
