Obituary of Natalie S. "Nellie" Carlson

Natalie S. "Nellie" Carlson, 90, of 715 Falconer St., formerly of 227 Prospect St. Jamestown, passed away at 12:18 Friday, September 1, 2017, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born December 25, 1926 in Falconer, NY, a daughter of the late Liborio and Bessie Giambrone LaPlaca. Before her retirement years she had worked in the mailroom at the Jamestown Post Journal for over 30 years and was an Avon representative for several years. In earlier years she had worked for the National Worsted Mills. She was a former communicant of St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed her Wednesday night ladies card club with her many friends. She also enjoyed spending time reading and sipping on her cup of coffee. Surviving are a daughter, Franni Lee Carlson of Jamestown, two sons; Richard A. (Susan) Carlson of Jamestown, Robert E. (Christine) Carlson of Lagrange, GA, ten grandchildren, Linda Nelson, Pamela Gaeta, Carol Carlson, John W. Carlson, Jr., William T. Carlson, Melinda Lydell, Andrea L. Carlson, Richard L. Carlson, Derek T. Carlson, Brett R. Carlson, several great grandchildren, a sister, Teresa R. LaPlaca of Jamestown and many nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Carlson, Jr., whom she married July 30, 1955 and who died June 4, 1978, two sisters, Mary J. Centi, Josephine R. LaPlaca, two brothers, Russell LaPlaca, Vincent James LaPlaca and two sons, Ralph A. Carlson and J.William Carlson. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 5, 2017, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran Social Services will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Falconer, NY. Friends will be received from 4-7 pm Monday, September 4, 2017, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Social Services Foundation, 715 Falconer St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
