Obituary of Anthony P. Smith

Anthony Peter "Pete" Smith, 70, of Cherry Creek, NY formerly of Delmar, NY, Sarasota, FL, and Jamestown, passed away Wednesday August 30, 2017 in ECMC, Buffalo, NY. He was born August 8, 1947 in Albany, NY the son of the late Anthony A. and Elizabeth Kadlecik Smith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Elizabeth LaVoy. Pete was a 1966 graduate of Bethlehem Central High School. In 1967, he enlisted in the US Navy traveling to many parts of the world during his tour of duty. He was honorably discharged in 1973. Pete was an excellent sailor and a licensed charter captain, a service technician on office machines and worked most of his life in these areas. He enjoyed sailing, riding his motorcycle, fixing up his house and yard, and tinkering with anything with a motor. Pete had a great love for the cats who adopted him. Surviving are a brother, Arthur (Carol) Smith of Batavia, NY; three sisters, Donna (Don) Gruol of Del Mar, CA; Susan (Jim) Slusarski of Fairport, NY; Kathleen Smith of Taos, NM; his nephews, Michael LaVoy, Bryan (Andrea) Smith, Jamison (Renisha) Smith, Justin Smith; his nieces, Deborah (Steven) Monroe, Barbara (Brian) Miller, his great nephews, Anthony Miller, Travis Monroe, Tyler Smith, Noah Smith, and Beau Smith; his great nieces, Christina Jackson, Hannah (Guery) Rameriz, Samantha (Eric) Berkenpas, Primrose Smith; and a great great nephew Owen Rameriz. The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday September 9, 2017 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Reverend Brian Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. to noon prior to the service. After the service, burial with full military honors will be in Lake View Cemetery. Pete was a special person and will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made along his life's journey In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701; the Salvation Army, 83 South Main Street, Jamestown, NY 14701; or a charity of choice.
