Obituary of Gloria S. "Dodie" Glatz

Gloria S. "Dodie" Glatz, 88, of 175 Aldren Ave., formerly of 1723 S. Main St. Ext., passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 in her home following a brief illness.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Julius and Ethel Herbkersman Schmidt.

Dodie graduated from Northfield School for Girls in Northfield, Mass. in 1947 and then attended Flora Stone Mather Women's College, a branch of Western Reserve University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Primary Education from Kent State University.

During her teaching career, Dodie taught second grade in East Cleveland, Ohio, Eau Gallie, Florida and in Jamestown at the CC Ring Elementary School, retiring in 1994.

Her memberships include First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown and the Home Bureau Club of Women. She also volunteered many hours to committee work at the Resource Center in Jamestown.

Dodie's latest interest has been playing the tile game, Mah Jongg, with the women on the campus of the Edgewood Lutheran Community.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harry E. Glatz; a son, Jay S. (Sue) Glatz of Lawrence, KS and a daughter, Kim M. (Nick) Majetich of Carmichael, CA; and five grandchildren: Katie, Andrea (JC) and Greg Glatz, and Grant and Kristen Majetich.

Dodie was preceded in death by a son, Bruce R. Glatz who died September 25, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 14th in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Hagel officiating. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to honor Dodie be made to The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701; First Presbyterian Church, 509 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701; or to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
