Obituary of Katherine L. Johnson

Katherine L. Johnson, 97, passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong Jamestown resident, she was born on Oct. 31, 1920 in Jamestown, the eldest child born to the late Frank and Ida Gulczynski (Gulch) Przybelinski. After graduating from Jamestown High School she worked at National Worsted Mills, Pearl City Plywood, and T. James Clarke Box and Label. While in her 40's, Katherine achieved her dream and earned her cosmetology license. She became a self-employed beautician. She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Katherine is survived by her daughter Barbara (Lee) Luce of Jamestown; six grandchildren: Cynthia (Ron) Lyon of AZ, Gary A. Johnson, Jr. of WA, Brian A. Johnson (Don) of AZ, Michelle Johnson of AZ, Jason Luce of FL, Melissa (Mike) Tow of IA; 11 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and a sister Charlotte (Gilbert) Bemus of FL. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. Johnson on Nov. 7, 1980; sons Richard B. in Sept. of 1950, Gary A, Sr. in Aug. of 2011, and Ronald S. in Nov. of 2017; two grandsons Ronald and Jeffrey, both of AZ; and her siblings: John Przybelinski, William Carlson, Edward Przybelinski, Frances Wermeter, Marie Przybelinski, and Josephine Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish will be celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
