Obituary of William J. Pickard

William J. Pickard Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018 at Heritage Park in Jamestown. Bill was born February 23, 1938 in Buffalo, NY to William Pickard and Grace Anger. He was a 1956 graduate of Silver Creek High School, Silver Creek, NY. After high school, he served 4 years in the United States Air Force and later graduated from Jamestown Community College with an Associate's Degree. Bill began his law enforcement career in Washington, DC as a Canine patrolman until he moved back to Jamestown to be closer to family. He then served 34 years with the Jamestown Police Department before retiring in 1995. Bill was a member and past president of the Kendall Club; member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion and past commander of the Sons of the Legion; and he was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge in Jamestown. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling, especially on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. His children will remember him for the times he spent playing with them while growing up. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Linda Houck Pickard whom he married October 7, 1961 in Brocton, NY; two daughters: Denise Harvey of Charlotte, NC; Michele Bennett of Jamestown; a son: William Pickard Jr. (Karen) of Batavia, NY; six grandchildren: Derek Harvey (Brooke) of Charlotte, NC, Jamie Bennett of Jamestown, Nicole Bennett (Marcus) of Sumter, SC, Andrew, Jack, and Noah Pickard all of Batavia, NY; four great grandchildren: Bradley Bennett of Jamestown, Dakota Adams of Sumter, SC, Savannah Deming of Brocton, NY, and Dominic Harvey of Charlotte, NC. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Ed and Harriet Houck. Family and friends are invited to share memories of Bill from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday February 18, 2018 in the Lind Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
