Obituary of Robert A. Nelson

Robert A. Nelson, 76, of 5 Melody Lane, Russell, PA, passed away Saturday March 3, 2018 in St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, PA. He was born November 6, 1941 in Jamestown the son of the late Edwin and Katherine Erickson Nelson. Bob grew up in Lakewood, NY and has lived in Russell for over 45 years. He attended Southwestern Central High School and earned his GED in 1992. Bob had worked at Jamestown Plywood, Philips Lighting in Warren, and retired from Bush Industries. He was a member of the Russell Volunteer Fire Department and was recognized as Member of The Year in 2013. Bob was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 109 in Warren and the July 4th Committee in Warren for several years. He enjoyed fishing, playing BINGO, and jigsaw puzzles. Surviving are two brothers: Edwin Nelson Jr., of Ashville; Arthur "Arkie" Nelson of Lakewood; two sisters: Dorothy Depas of Lakewood; Kitty (David) Parker of Dewittville; seven stepchildren: Connie Nelson of Eagle Bridge, NY; Fenton (Sandra) Lohnes of Lance, PA; Bryan Lohnes of Brick, NJ; Barton Lohnes (Fran Jenkins) of Steamboat Springs, CO; Royal (Joan) Lohnes of Sinclairville, NY; Darlene (Bud) Neidig of Lake Placid, FL; Brenda (Victor) Lauffenburger of Warren, PA; several nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, step great great grandchildren; his fishing buddy, Fran Holmes; and his friend of over 50 years, Bill Martin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Lohnes Nelson whom he married December 9, 1972 and who died February 25, 2006; a brother: Richard Nelson; and two sisters: Edna Farnsworth and Nina Depas. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood, NY. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Russell Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 66, Russell, PA 16345.
