Obituary of Thomas P. Ognibene

Thomas P. Ognibene, 88, formerly of 632 Hazzard St., died Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Lutheran Retirement Home.

He was born August 7, 1929 in Falconer, NY, a son of the late Jack and Carmella Orsini Ognibene, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Tom was a 40 year employee of TRW in Jamestown, retiring as an inspector in 1992. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

An avid sports fan, especially his beloved NY Yankees, Tom particularly enjoyed watching and attending any and all of his grandchildren's sporting events. In his earlier years, he never missed a basketball game or a tennis match of his daughters' careers. He was a kind and gentle man, never passing judgment on anyone. He brought joy to many people always with his big heart and kind words. In his final days at the Lutheran Home, he enjoyed many of the activities, along with playing cards with his kids. He will be missed.

Tom is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Rose Marie Russo Ognibene, whom he married May 24, 1952; three daughters: Mary Ann Thorn and Michele Ognibene, both of Jamestown, and Marlene (Tim) Sandberg of Warren; four grandsons: Adam (Jessica) Thorn of Buffalo, Thomas (Christy) Thorn of Jamestown, and Matthew and Nathan Sandberg, both of Warren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Josephine Grignol of Erie and Grace Peterson of Jamestown; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Arthur Ognibene of Rohnert Park, California and a sister, Ann Pirrone of Italy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3rd in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake service will take place at 6:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Church, 27 Allen St., Jamestown, NY 14701; or the St. Joseph Catholic School Endowment, 608 Pennsylvania Ave. West, Warren Pa. 16365.
