Obituary of Shirley A. Carlson

Shirley A. Carlson, 96, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, died April 11, 2010, following a brief illness. She was born March 8, 1914, in Corry, Pa, daughter of the late Harris and Ines Young Watrous. A 1931 graduate of Corry High School, she married Ragnar T. Carlson March 16, 1935, and moved to Jamestown. Mrs. Carlson was employed for many years by Anderson Cleaners, retiring in 1969. She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she had been active with Ladies Aid, the Kouples and Singles Klub, the Senior Fellowship and Swedish Society. Shirley was also a member of the Westside Women's Club and American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, growing violets, and traveling with her family. Surviving are a daughter Kathleen (Terrance) Horner of Jamestown, two sons: Steven (Judith) Carlson of Albany, NY, and Craig (Julie) Carlson of Corry, Pa, and sisters Ann Gregor of Jamestown and Charlotte Clark of Corry, Pa, sister-in-law Alta Mae Watrous of Jamestown, and daughter-in-law Sally Carlson-Ditmyer of Port Orange, Fl. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Terrance N. Horner, Jr., of Washington, DC, David Horner of Hookstown, PA, Michelle Macris of Superior, CO, Joel T. Carlson, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, Sara Carlson and A. Tage Carlson both of Albany NY, and six great grandchildren: Zoe and Peter John Macris, Olivia and Luke David Horner, Mckenzie and Cole Carlson and seventeen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband who died January 12, 1977, a son Joel 'Ted' Carlson, a sister Ida Christenson and two brothers Lyle and Robert Watrous. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. April 15, 2010 in Christ Chapel of The Lutheran Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt, Chaplain of The Lutheran Home will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, April 14, 2010, in the Lind Funeral Home.
