Obituary of Walter E. Braley

Walter E. Braley, 80, of Forest Ave. Ext. departed this life at 7:25 a.m Friday (May 14, 2010) in his home, following a courageous 14 month battle with lung cancer. A lifelong area resident he was born February 12, 1930 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Samuel H. and Ruth A. Benson Braley. Mr. Braley attended the former Lakewood High School and in earlier years was employed by the former Wilcox-Crissey Company for 10 years. Before his retirement, he was a shear operator for the former Watson Manufacturing Company where he worked for 34 years. He had attended the Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed many church activities over the years. He also loved to listen to Christian music, singing, humor, sports and enjoyed taking care of his lawn and spending time in his garden. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 52 years the former Audrey Hazzard whom he married May 14, 1958, his two sons, Darryl W. (Terry) Braley of Jamestown, Randall S. Braley of Forest, VA, four grandchildren, Jason (Bridget) Braley of North Tonawanda, NY, Ryan (Julie) Braley of Norfolk, VA, Alysha Braley of Greenville, SC, Andrew Braley of Columbus, OH and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor Bova and his two brothers Horace and Berton Braley. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. James Read, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
