Obituary of Glenn L. Hitchcock

Glenn L. Hitchcock, 92, of 3036 Busti-Stillwater Rd. Jamestown passed away at 9:35 a.m. Saturday (March 20, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. An area resident for most of his life he was born August, 1, 1917 in Bowen, NY a son of the late Hoyt and Crystabelle Blood Hitchcock. Before his retirement he was employed by the Jamestown Board of Education working at Jamestown High School in the maintenance department as supervisor of building and grounds for over 30 years. He was a member of the Busti Church of God and in earlier years had worshipped at the Ross Mills Church. He also taught sunday school and was a song leader for his church. He was a staunch advocate for the hearing impaired in New York State for many years and was instrumental in the implementation of the "deaf child area" signs being erected throughout the state. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his family. He also loved to sing, spend time in his garden, working on the farm and playing golf. He was well loved by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife the former Lois N. McGraw whom he married December 17, 1955, five daughters Carol Sheldon, Crystal Olson both of Jamestown, Laurel Lees of Cattaraugus, Catherine Frederes of Salisbury, NC, Alice Haglund of Falconer, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and two sisters, Edna Sample of Randolph, Alice Schultz of Franklinville. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Lynda Lou Hitchcock who died July 26, 1969. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy E. Ferguson, pastor of the Busti Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010, in the funeral home.
