Obituary of George D. Seastedt

George D. Seastedt, 57, of 612 Winsor St. passed away at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday (February 23, 2010) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born December 15, 1952 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Kenneth W. and Lois M. Lees Seastedt. George was a 1971 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1978 graduate of Jamestown Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from April 24, 1972 to April 23, 1974 in the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his tour of active duty he also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was currently employed by the Blair Corporation of Warren, PA working as a systems programmer for the past 20 years. He had earlier worked for the Marlin Rockwell Corporation and the former Blackstone Corporation. He was a communicant of the Holy Apostles Parish at St. John Catholic Church and a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. He was also a member of the Marco Polo Club where he served on the Board of Directors. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father who loved to spend time cooking for his family. He also loved to travel and was an avid gardener who enjoyed the time he spent gardening with his cousin Mike. As a sportsman he loved to cheer on the Boston Red Sox, Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres. George received the blessing of a kidney transplant in 2006 for which he was very grateful and at the time of his passing was himself an organ donor. Surviving are his wife the former Susan Casselman whom he married November 25, 1972, two daughters Callie A. (Fred) Pellerito, Courtney L. Seastedt both of Jamestown, a son Andrew D. Seastedt of Charlotte, NC, four step-grandchildren Alyson, Sydney, Grayson, Elizabeth Pellerito all of Jamestown, two sisters Sonja (Dale) Ricker of Fredonia, Rebecca Edwards of Olean, his Aunt who helped raise him Mary Vet of Bemus Point and her children Erik Seastedt, Tanya Grosschmidt, Michael Seastedt, Kristen Seastedt and his companion and friend, his black lab "Buddy". Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his uncle J. Ronald Seastedt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Gullo, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Arcade, NY will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor of Holy Apostles Parish at 6:45 p.m. Friday.
