Obituary of Betty J. Nelson

Betty J. Nelson, 82, formerly of 4009 Dutch Hollow Rd., died Saturday February 6, 2010, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A Jamestown native, she was born January 17, 1928, a daughter of the late Lloyd "Shorty" and Beulah "Peg" Freed Winton. She was a 1946 graduate of Bemus Point High School. She was a member of the auxiliaries of Robert W. Illig Post #47 DAV, Fredonia American Legion Post #59 and Thomas G. Stone Post 726 AMVETS. She loved the travel involved with her husband's assignments in the military. They were married at McCord Air Force Base, Tacoma, WA and were also stationed in Germany, Alaska, Montana, Vietnam, Norway, England and Florida until returning to this area in 1971. Surviving are her husband Claude "Sarg" Nelson, whom she married in 1951, a sister Barbara Dalton of Ocala, FL, a brother-in-law Richard Swanson of Jamestown, foster daughter Della Lake of Lakewood and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Beverly Swanson and a brother-in-law Gene Dalton. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Heely will officiate.
