Obituary of Martin John Smith

Martin John Smith, 59, formerly of 52 McKinley Ave died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday (January 21, 2010) in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. An area resident for most of his life he was born March 15, 1950 in St. Petersburg, FL a son of the late Alex V. and Velma E. Risley Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1970 - 1981. In earlier years he was a cook at Friendly's Restaurant for 15 years. He will be remembered as an avid Elvis Presley fan. Surviving are two sisters Linda Strickroth of Jamestown and Nancy Smith of MO. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Lisa Baker who was his caregiver and also survived by several great nieces and great nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a niece Taylor Strickroth. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler, chaplain of Heritage Village will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
