Obituary of James Nagle

James Nagle, 84, of 39 Summit Ave. died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday (January 14, 2010) in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident he was born February 22, 1925 in Jamestown NY a son of the late Gust and Artemis Labonia Nagle. He was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and graduated from New York University School of Engineering and Design. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving from July 30, 1943 to May 18, 1946 during World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters. Before his retirement in 1977, he had owned and operated with his wife the Betty Dixon Candy Company for many years. In his early years he was a tool designer for the Marlin Rockwell Corporation. During his working years he was very active in community affairs where he was past president of the Jamestown Retail Merchants Association, past director of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, past exalted ruler of the Jamestown Elks Lodge # 263 and was a past president of the Jamestown Kiwanis Club. He also served as chairman of the Jamestown Traffic and Parking Commission and was a member of the American Legion and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Surviving are two daughters Kathleen L. (Dudley) Anderson of Lakewood, NY, Karen F. Nagle of Rockford, MI, seven grandchildren Laura K. (Nathan Arnone) Anderson of Jamestown, Kurtis D. (Jeanne) Anderson of Fluvanna, Jared T. Anderson of Lakewood, Daniel C., Peter J., William R., Kathryn R. Zielinski all of Rockford, MI, the light of his life, his great grandson, Lucas Anderson Arnone, a brother Peter Nagle of Jamestown and a sister Dorothy Nagle of West Melbourne, FL. He is also survived by four nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Lucia Marie Holcomb Nagle whom he married July 22, 1950 and who died December 21, 1997. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Kibbe of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
