Obituary of Sylvia Joy Maitland

Sylvia Joy Maitland, 73, of 75 Norton Ave., died Thursday August 6, 2009, in WCA Hospital. A native of Cattaraugus, NY, she was born December 29, 1935, a daughter of Asa and Marian Manning Warner. Prior to her retirement she worked as New Albion Town Clerk and Cattaraugus Village Clerk for 12 years. She was an active member of Falconer First Wesleyan Church where she had served as a board member. She enjoyed playing and especially winning board games or card games. Her greatest joy came from following and supporting all of her grandchildren's various activities. Whether it was sports or music, school or church, she was always there. Surviving are her husband Richard Maitland, whom she married Septmeber 3, 1982, five daughters Pamela Caprino of Lakewood, Deborah Swauger and Susan Waite of West Ellicott, Cynthia (Lewis) Aronson of Bemus Point and Tina Swauger of Ellington, a son Tim (Aruna) Swauger of Seattle, WA, eleven grandchildren Gabriel, Josiah and Calressa Caprino, Caleb (Michelle) Waite, Hannah, Sarah and Justin Waite, Rebecca (Chris) Milz, Michael and Antoine Aronson and Megan Swauger, two great grandchildren Colin and MaLiyah Waite, three sisters Esther (Wendell) Wilcox, Evelyn Hooker and Carol Paddock, two brothers Ron (Jane) Warner and Jim (Linda) Warner and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Zion Covenant Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
