Obituary of Walter Prusik

Walter Prusik, 92, formerly of 66 Stewart Ave. and Loyalton of Lakewood, died Wednesday August 5, 2009, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. He was born April 28, 1917, in Jersey City, NJ, a son of Joseph and Catherine Stawiarski Prusik. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was employed by the former Crescent Tool Company for 23 years. He earlier had worked for Tillotson's Factory. He was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, Matthews and Miller Athletic Club, Jock Shop Athletic Club and AARP bowling leagues. He was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award by the Jock Shop for his 50 years of area volunteer work which included the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame, City of Jamestown Easter egg hunt and supervising area playgrounds and gymnasiums. His hobbies included bowling, pitching horseshoes, playing baseball and doing yard work and handy jobs around the house. One of his favorite memories is playing shortstop for local baseball teams. Surviving are three children Diane Prusik of Lakewood, Janet (Brian Elford) Urbanick of DeBary, FL, Gary (Anne Ohlsson) Prusik of Anthony, NM, and two grandchildren Raven (Danjel) Carr Dugandzic of DeBary, FL and Fawn Carr of Lake Mary, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Marion Bucklin, whom he married November 21, 1945, and who died October 20, 1994, a brother Sigmund Prusik and a sister Sophie Swanson. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Rick LaDue and Rev. Jacqueline Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 S.
