Obituary of Norman W. LeRoy

Norman W. LeRoy of Ashville, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 10. He was born March 2, 1935 in Jamestown, a son of the late William McKinley and Ruth Hetfield LeRoy. He was a lifelong member of the Ashville United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and as a member of the Pastor Parish Relation's Committee. He also volunteered at the church's Food Bank. Norm retired in 1998 from Cummins' Engine Plant after 17 years. He previously worked at AVM Corporation as a foreman, Proto Tool, Chautauqua Hardware and most recently at ECKO Tool and Die. After serving in the Naval Reserves he became a member of the Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion. Other interests included Jamestown Harmony Express, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Chautauqua Lake Fishing Association and Senior League Bowling in Jamestown. His family will remember his pleasure in fishing, boating, gardening, landscaping, camping and snowmobiling. Most of all they will warmly recall his love for his children and grandchildren. Norm was known for his strong work ethic, great sense of humor and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Surviving is his wife, Jean Ann Owen LeRoy of Ashville whom he married August 23, 1958 at Brooklyn Heights Methodist Church; a daughter, Norma Jean (James) Chrysler of Manlius, NY; son, Mark Allan (Andrea) LeRoy of Ashville; four grandchildren, Jamie Lynn and Noah James Chrysler and Collin Allan and Rachel Grace LeRoy; two sisters, Jeannine (Dennis) Nolan of Fayetteville, NY and Winifred (Raymond) Dorman of Jamestown; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Helga) Owen of Jamestown; and four nieces and a nephew: Ruth Nolan, Debra (Mark) Eckstrand, Rick Dorman, Cindy (Rick) Shepard and Heidi (Mark) Blevins. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Ashville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dena Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Ashville United Methodist Church, P.O.
